To check your electricity bill online in Bangladesh (বিদ্যুৎ বিল চেক), you need the number your distributor uses for your connection. It is printed on your paper bill. Then open your distributor's official app or website, or use Pay Bill in bKash or Nagad, and type that number. This guide shows the exact steps for DESCO, DPDC, NESCO, WZPDCL, BPDB and Palli Bidyut. It also covers prepaid meters and what to do if your bill does not show.

How to check your electricity bill online: quick steps

  1. Find your distributor's name on your paper bill or on your meter.
  2. Find the number it uses: account number, customer number or SMS account number. Prepaid meters may use the meter number.
  3. Open the official app or website for your distributor, or open Pay Bill in bKash or Nagad.
  4. Type your number and, if asked, the billing month.
  5. Read the bill amount and due date. Pay only if the details match your connection.

The sections below give the exact route for each distributor. Apps and portals change over time. If a step does not match your screen, call the number for your distributor in the table.

Which electricity distributor do you have?

Bangladesh has six electricity distributors. Each one runs its own bill system, so a number from one distributor will not work on another distributor's website. Check the name at the top of your bill or on the label of your meter.

DESCOParts of north Dhaka, Tongi and PurbachalAccount number16120
DPDCDhaka South City Corporation area and part of NarayanganjCustomer number16116

Palli Bidyut (BREB)Rural areas, through your local PBS officeSMS account number (postpaid) or meter number (prepaid)16899

Bills use different names for the same kind of number: account number, customer number, consumer number or SMS account number. Use the one named in the table. The national Power Division hotline, 16999, takes complaints for all six distributors. Not sure which one you have? Use our find my distributor page or read how the distributors differ.

Postpaid or prepaid meter?

A postpaid meter gives you a bill every month, and you pay after you use the power. A prepaid meter works like a mobile balance. You recharge first, and the meter uses the balance as you go. Prepaid users get no monthly bill, so they check their balance and recharge history instead. See the prepaid section below, or our prepaid meter guide.

Take a photo of an old bill and keep it on your phone. It shows your distributor, your number and your meter number. If you have no paper bill, ask your distributor's call centre or local office how to find your number, and keep your meter number ready when you ask.

Want a printed copy of these steps? Download the one-page checklist (PDF). You can fill in your own numbers on it.

Electricity bill check with bKash (app and *247#)

bKash lets you see a bill and pay it in one place for providers such as DESCO, DPDC and Palli Bidyut. In the app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the bKash app and log in with your PIN.
  2. Tap Pay Bill, then Electricity.
  3. Choose your provider, such as Palli Bidyut or BPDB.
  4. Enter your customer number: the account number, SMS account number, consumer number or meter number, whichever your provider uses. Choose the billing month if the app asks.
  5. Tap Check Bill. The screen shows the billing month and the amount.
  6. To pay, confirm with your PIN. Keep the digital receipt.

No smartphone? Dial *247#, choose Pay Bill, then Electricity (Postpaid). Pick Palli Bidyut or your service, choose Check Bill and enter your customer number. If asked, enter the month as MMYYYY, for example 102026 for October 2026. The bill details arrive by SMS. USSD menus can change, so follow the options on your screen.

bKash says that looking at a bill amount costs nothing. It also says the first electricity, gas, water or telephone bill you pay each month through the app or *247# has no charge. Fees can change, so read the charge on the screen before you confirm. The bKash help line is 16247.

Electricity bill check with Nagad

  1. Open the Nagad app and log in.
  2. Tap Bill Pay, then Electricity.
  3. Choose your biller and enter your customer number.
  4. Tap Check Bill. You see the current bill amount and the bill month. You can pay at once if you want to.

The list on Nagad's website includes DESCO Postpaid and Prepaid, DPDC, NESCO Postpaid and Prepaid, West Zone Power Distribution Company, BREB Prepaid and many PBS offices. Read the name and the amount on the confirmation screen before you enter your PIN.

The app needs an internet connection. If you have no data, dial *167# instead. Nagad says the USSD route does not need internet.

Prepaid meter balance check online

A prepaid meter has no monthly bill. Look at your recharge history and your last token instead. You can also read the balance on the meter display. These are the options by distributor:

  • DESCO: the prepaid website and the DESCO app show recharge history.
  • DPDC: the My DPDC app shows your last token. DPDC says its new online (AMI) meters need no token and can be recharged through platforms such as bKash and Rocket.
  • NESCO: the prepaid page on the customer portal shows recharge and usage.
  • BPDB: the BPDB website links to the last three tokens of a prepaid meter.
  • Palli Bidyut: use bKash or Nagad with your meter number.

Bangla words on your electricity bill (বিদ্যুৎ বিল)

Your bill may be in Bangla or English. These common Bangla terms match the English words used in this guide. The exact wording differs a little between distributors.

How to read your electricity bill: six checks before you pay

Once the bill opens, check these six things before you pay:

  1. Name, address and meter number. They should match your meter.
  2. Billing month and due date. Make sure you are reading the right month.
  3. Units used. This is the current meter reading minus the previous reading. For example, a reading of 3,612 now and 3,450 last month means 162 units (kWh). Compare the current reading with the number on your meter.
  4. Demand charge. This is a fixed monthly charge based on your approved (sanctioned) load, which is the power limit set for your connection. It applies even in a month when you use little power.
  5. Unpaid amount from earlier months (arrears). This is added to the bill.
  6. Total and VAT. Check the total payable against the due date.

To see what each line pays for, read every line on your electricity bill, explained. To test the total, enter your units in the bill calculator or the bill to units calculator. If the two figures are far apart, follow the steps in fix a wrong bill before you pay.

Electricity bill not showing online? Fixes to try

These are the most common reasons, in the order to check them:

  1. Wrong distributor. A DESCO number does not work on the DPDC site, even though both supply parts of Dhaka.
  2. Wrong kind of number. A paper bill can show an account number, a meter number and an SMS account number. Try the one the website or app names.
  3. Wrong month. In bKash and some portals you must choose the billing month.
  4. Typing mistake. Check for missing digits and extra spaces.
  5. New connection. A new connection may not have its first bill yet. Ask your office.
  6. Site or app problem. If one route is slow or down, try another, such as the app, bKash or Nagad.

Still stuck? Call your distributor and give your meter number and customer number. DPDC asks for both. For a complaint about any distributor, you can also call the Power Division at 16999. Our hotlines and complaints page explains what to have ready. If you paid but the bill still shows unpaid, keep the SMS, the digital receipt and the transaction ID, and show them to your distributor.

Stay safe when you check or pay online

  • Use official addresses. The distributor websites in this guide end in .gov.bd or .org.bd.
  • Keep your PIN and one-time codes private. Never share them with anyone, even a caller who says they work for your distributor or your wallet.
  • Be careful with unofficial bill-check sites. They copy information from other places, and mistakes happen. At least one such site we saw lists the wrong call-centre number for WZPDCL. Use the numbers in this guide, which match the Power Division's list.
  • Protect your number. On bKash, typing a number is enough to see that bill's amount. Share your number only with people you trust, and ask before you look up a tenant's or relative's bill.

Keep a monthly record

Write down your meter reading each month, save a screenshot or PDF of the bill, and keep the payment receipt. This helps if you ever dispute a bill, and it lets you compare this month with the same month last year.

Quick summary

  • Find your distributor from the name on your bill.
  • Use the number your distributor asks for: account, customer or SMS account number, or the meter number for prepaid.
  • Check on the official website or app, or use Pay Bill in bKash or Nagad.
  • Prepaid users check recharge history and tokens, not a monthly bill.
  • Never pay by sending money to a mobile number. Use Bill Pay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my electricity bill online in Bangladesh?

Yes, if you know your account, customer or meter number. If you do not, ask your distributor's call centre or local office. Keep your meter number ready.

Is it free to check a bill online?

bKash says that viewing a bill amount costs nothing. Fees for paying depend on the app and the biller, so read the charge shown on the screen before you confirm.

Which number do I type: account, customer, consumer or SMS account number?

It depends on your distributor. DESCO uses the account number. DPDC and NESCO use the customer number. BPDB uses the customer number plus a location code. Palli Bidyut uses the SMS account number for postpaid and the meter number for prepaid. The table in this guide has the full list.

Can I check my bill with my meter number?

On the portals in this guide, DESCO, DPDC, NESCO and BPDB ask for an account or customer number, not the meter number. Palli Bidyut prepaid asks for the meter number. If you only have your meter number, call your distributor or visit its local office and ask for your account or customer number.

How can I check my electricity bill by SMS or USSD?

On bKash, dial *247#, choose Pay Bill, then Electricity (Postpaid). Pick Palli Bidyut or your service, choose Check Bill and enter your customer number. If asked, enter the month as MMYYYY. The bill details arrive by SMS. Menus can change, so follow the options on your screen.

How do I check my prepaid meter balance?

Read the display on the meter, or use your distributor's prepaid page or app. DESCO and NESCO have prepaid pages, My DPDC shows your last token, and BPDB's website links to the last three tokens. Prepaid users get no monthly bill.

Can I see my bills from earlier months?

Often yes. The DESCO app shows bill history. The My DPDC app shows a ledger of past bills and payments. BPDB's Bill On Web lets you choose a month. The BREB app shows payment history.

I paid, but my bill still shows unpaid. What should I do?

Keep the confirmation SMS, the digital receipt and the transaction ID. Call your distributor and give those details with your meter number and customer number.

Why is my bill higher than I expected?

Check the units used first, then the demand charge and any unpaid amount from earlier months. Put your units into our bill calculator to compare. If the figures are far apart, see our guide to fixing a wrong bill.

Which number do I call for a billing problem?

DESCO 16120, DPDC 16116, NESCO 16603, WZPDCL 16117, BPDB 16200 and Palli Bidyut (BREB) 16899. The Power Division hotline for all distributors is 16999.

Is Bidyut Bill Calculator part of my electricity distributor?

No. This site is independent and is not affiliated with BERC, the Power Division or any distributor. It does not take bill payments, and this page never asks for your account number.
