Who runs this site
BidyutBill is an independently operated reference and calculator site focused entirely on Bangladesh electricity billing. It is maintained by a small team with backgrounds in software engineering and utility-sector data work, who got tired of not being able to check a bill's arithmetic without a spreadsheet. The site is not a company registered with, or a product of, any distribution utility, ministry or regulator.
Editorial standards
Every figure published here — tariff rates, fees, hotline numbers, application steps — is sourced from publicly available material: BERC tariff orders and gazettes, utility websites and published fee schedules, and, where public documentation is thin (such as typical processing timelines), our own experience and correspondence with utility offices. We label anything indicative or typical rather than officially fixed, and we do not publish rates or figures we cannot trace back to a source.
How rates are sourced and updated
The tariff dataset behind our calculators is aligned with the BERC 2026 schedule schedule set by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), which sets one national tariff applied uniformly by DESCO, DPDC, NESCO, BPDB, WZPDCL and BREB. When BERC issues a new tariff order, we update the dataset and note the effective billing cycle on the tariff page. We do not backdate old calculations silently — if a change affects a page materially, we note the update in that page's content.
Calculator methodology
The bill calculator applies the published formula: energy charge (units priced through progressive slabs for residential LT-A, or time-of-use peak/off-peak rates for commercial, industrial and higher-tension categories) plus a demand charge (sanctioned load in kW multiplied by the category's fixed rate) plus optional meter rent, minus applicable rebates (0.5% for prepaid metering, 5% for early postpaid payment), with 5% VAT applied last on the net amount. All inputs and calculations run entirely in your browser — nothing you type is transmitted to us. The calculator does not automatically include fuel-adjustment surcharges, late fees or utility-specific one-off charges, since these vary and are not part of the standard BERC rate card; we say so directly next to the result rather than silently omitting the caveat.
Corrections policy
If you find a figure that no longer matches an official tariff order, a wrong hotline number, or a broken calculation, we want to know. Email us at olopia4u@gmail.com with the page, the figure in question, and a source if you have one. We review correction reports and update pages promptly once verified; material corrections are treated as a priority over new content.
