Find which company distributes electricity to your address

Bangladesh has six distribution utilities, each responsible for a fixed geographic territory. Your bill, your complaint, your new connection application and your net metering paperwork all go to whichever one covers your address — never to BERC directly.

If the search above still leaves you unsure

Coverage boundaries are drawn by feeder and substation, not by postal code, so two flats on the same road can occasionally sit under different utilities near a boundary — this is common at the edges of Dhaka North/South and around district town limits where BREB and BPDB or NESCO meet. When area name alone is not conclusive, use one of these four confirmations instead.

1. Read the header of any old bill or meter card

The company name and logo are printed at the top of every bill, prepaid recharge receipt, and the plastic meter identity card issued at installation. This is the single fastest confirmation if you or a previous occupant has any paper record at all.

2. Look at the meter body itself

Utility-owned meters are stamped or stickered with the distributor's name and a meter serial number beginning with a company-specific prefix. DESCO and DPDC meters in Dhaka commonly show a printed QR code linking to that company's self-service portal — scanning it confirms the utility instantly.

3. Call the national BPDB/BERC-linked helplines for a redirect

If you have absolutely no documentation (for example, you are pre-purchasing land for a house), call the hotline of the utility that seems most likely from area name in the table above. Every call centre operator can confirm coverage or redirect you to the correct company in the same call — they field this exact question daily.

4. Ask the previous occupant, landlord, or neighbours

For rented units, the outgoing tenant or landlord almost always knows which office to visit for a name-transfer application, which is the more common real-world task rather than a brand-new connection.

Why this matters before you do anything else

Every other service on this site — paying a bill, filing a complaint, applying for a new connection or net metering — is filed with your specific distributor, not with a central authority. Filing with the wrong company wastes a trip and, for time-sensitive matters like a disconnection notice, wastes days you may not have. Confirm the distributor first, then continue to paying your bill or applying for a new connection.
